I have had these two Hoya vases a few years now which means they are now in a box in the scary storeroom. These photos are not the best, really kept for my records, but they show the vases well enough.
Hoya did not do a lot of coloured glass and when they did this amber and blue were the most common. Not many of this style of vase seem to have been exported and I am not sure why as I think they have a universal appeal.
Both are coloured glass cased in clear and have had significant mounts of cutting and polishing to get them to these shapes and finish
The amber starts from a square base and finishes as a hexagon at the rim, and the transition from one to the other is beautifully shaped and balanced.
The blue is a shape like a Christmas bauble (whatever that is called) at both base and rim but with multiple flowing facets between the two. It's pretty awesome cutting I think.
As with all Hoya, the glass is beautifully clear and exquisitely cut and finished. As good as any in the world I think.
Both are around 24cm and I believe they date from the 1990s.

What beautiful lines on these vases which helps bring out their sensational colors. Awesome pair Karen

      Thanks Jennie.
They would look better if I got them out of their box!

I have a fondness for this type of glass due to the optical effects that are ever changing. Also I think these are particularly lovely examples due to their purity of line.

I agree Peggy, the optics of this style of faceted glass are usually pretty fabulous, and these two look good. Of course that's the appeal of Mandruzzato or Moser too.
They probably deserve time out of storage to really shine!

Thanks Ken, they would look good draped in some appropriately coloured jewels, no?

I remember some of the coloured ones from the eighties and nineties I would buy but never really knew what Hoya was all about !~

      Thanks Phil.
I think Hoya's high end glass was as good as any in the world but possibly suffered with the Asia/Euro comparisons.
      Deserved of our respect.

The amber is a particularly beautiful colour, and the shape is lovely.
Glad you love it Eileen, and thanks!
