This Blenko free form controlled bubble ashtray is 6.5" in diameter x 3" high, and weighs 4 lbs 1 ounce. It has a slightly silver/gray color tone. It was designed by Wayne Husted in 1953.
There is some minor bottom wear but it is otherwise mint. It retains its original foil label, but the ink is mostly worn off of it. This label, in the shape of a hand, was used from the 1930s until 1982. The depressions made by the letters are still sharp and it is easy to read "Blenko Handcraft".
Based on the wear and color, I estimate this ashtray was made in the 1950s. It has the ugliest broken pontil that I have ever seen on a Blenko piece. This is a monster size ashtray, but only has accommodation for three cigarettes/cigars. The orange color in some of the images is from the Illini shirt I was wearing...

Have an old glass ashtray I have had since the eighties, it was owned by my father who was a 40 a day smoker. He died in 1982 aged 65. Will upload it tonight.
Thanks for your comment michaeln544! I will watch for your post!

I was doing some ashtray research and found this link on how to do things smoking related. It has been so long since I smoked, I can't remember how I did these things. I remember pipe smoking "how to" but not sure about cigarettes or cigars. I smoked either Camel straights or rolled my own Drum ciggies (the original not the US copy), but stopped in the 1990s and cigars maybe a bit later. I still miss pipe smoking, but smoking became incompatible with my yogic lifestyle which I adopted around 2000...
