Recent auction find. 6 1/2" x 17" x 7 1/4" Salesman Sample Gate. Patent #52,713 was issued to William G. Hermance, of Albany, New York on February 20, 1866. It is a sliding gate suspended on rollers on the upper left and lower right to reduce friction. It latches securely. This is part two of a trifecta I expressed longing for six years ago in another post. See photo. My grandson is a machinist. I am hoping he can machine the missing roller D. It appears that the swiveling roller on the right side bottom was never there on the model. It would be so tiny it probably was not feasible. Keep in mind the model is to demonstrate the features of the gate. It would be easy to explain the missing roller. It is also possible that the roller wasn't needed for the gate to function properly.
4/12/2020 Update: My Grandson Jacob machined the missing roller and I added it to the gate which you can see in the first two photos is operating as intended.
