Hello, Was wanting help from the experts on this one. I acquired this beautiful set recently which I am assuming is mourning jewelry. It consists of a bracelet, pendant, a ring and a pair of earrings. It is marked sterling.

I have a couple of questions. What is the significance of the figures in the cameo. They appear to be Roman? Some are right facing and some are left facing. Also have another question. The stone is definitely not onyx. It has a dark brown, almost black look to it with a bit or iridescence. I cannot find anything that looks similar. Thanks so much for any help!

Not stone, blackmother of pearl :-)
Roman figures, your parure certainly comes from Italy, the non pierced earrings would place it from the 1920s.

Thanks so much for that information!!! That's very interesting. I've never heard of black mother of pearl, but that makes perfect sense!
