I bought this chair a few years ago at my local Goodwill (Westport CT). It was with a group of much more modern chairs and I really didn’t notice it until I got them home. I’m not a collector and not even from CT — and I’m only now learning about the history of the area and how old things might be around here!
I’m curious if anyone can help me date the chair. The rush is so old and dry but almost completely intact (my cat ripped one thread out which prompted me to research it). There appears to be a layer of some thing under the rash it’s thicker than paper but thinner than wood I can’t explain it.
When I look for similar primitive chairs they tend to have ladder backs, and Windsor chairs have a different shape. It’s only when I looked up hickory chairs that I started to see the correct shape.
My main interest is in ruling out if this is something rare or valuable - or can it continue to be moved around my house randomly.
Thank you so much!
