i have this item for years and dont remember where or how i acquired it. i am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to primitive kitchen pieces but i am at a loss on this item. it may not even be a kitchen item. the bottom stamped “potters ware”
I can imagine this was used to smooth the inside surface of a pottery vessel. Why the “handle” portion is pointed, Im guessing it would be put to use for incising designs on the outside surface and for cutting off unwanted clay at the mouth of a vessel and for incising the maker’s name on the bottom.
now you guys are cooking with gas! & thank you so much as it has been a personal mystery for so long, i finally gave up on it. hoo-ray for CW!
my guess is that its used to make molds out of pewter, to cut the fine edges or make clean concise edges for the mold itself. Why do i think that? Below:

I didn't watch the video but i think you would hold the rounded part in your hand for stability.
I cannot find anything online showing my idea of this being used to smooth the inside of a vessel in pottery making so I should withdraw that “bright idea”.....I’m looking forward to a definite solution to this mystery. :-)
Go to you tube guys!!! Somewhere, someone is showing all how to use just about anything!!!
and sadly the mystery continues. thanks everyone for showing interest in unknown piece. please keep it in the back of your head & should anyone stubble upon the answer in the future be sure to enlighten us all.
