Narrative of the Captivity of Mrs. Johnson containing an accout of her sufferings, during four years, with the Indians and French. 1807. Windsor (Vt) Printed by Alden Spooner. This book has so many fascinating stories from the early settlers of the area where i grew up in NH/VT. The first printing was much shorter, and this one has a lot more detail and includes events she remembered later on towards the end of her life. Lots of info about the settling of Charlestown, Fort No. 4, and the Connecticut River. It even mentions an island on the river which is right off my family's land. Some brutal stories in this one!
It’s incredible she survived and was able to record her memories of those years.
i know Watchsearcher. It sounds unbelievably frightening - just going through the forest at the time, but her tone does change throughout the story and she does gain quite a bit of respect for Native Americans over the ordeal.
