My mother picked this up in Maine and gave it to me for my collection of antique children's books. It is such a treasure and I am pretty sure it is the 1st Edition, in which case it would be a rare and valuable book. (See http://www.davidbrassrarebooks.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-shopping-cart/single_book.php?sbook=667) . It's full of color illustrations, and the story is very charming.
Thanks for the love! I love it, too. I was talking with my mother on the phone, and she told me the place where she purchased it had several other Beatrix Potter stories along with this one and when she asked the owner to pick one out, this is the one he chose. I think I will give them a call to see if I can purchase some of the others over the phone and have them shipped to me!
Have found out if this is a first edition yet. I looked on Abebooks, but the results are not certain. They have a first edition same publisher but the cover is a bit different. In any case here is the link http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=Beatrix+Potter&bi=0&bx=off&ds=30&kn=Copyright+1904&pn=Frederick+Warne+%26+Co.&recentlyadded=all&sortby=1&sts=t&tn=The+Tale+of+Benjamin+Bunny&x=63&y=4
You have a beautiful edition regardless of the value!! Thanks for sharing.
Sorry did you find out if it is a first edition yet? did you send for more from the same store?
I do believe it is a first edition. I have not taken it anywhere to confirm that, however from my research and in having a friend who is also into old books take a look at it, we both have a good feeling it is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_Benjamin_Bunny
The cover of the book in the link you posted is not the first edition cover.
Excellent!
