Many vintage jewellery makers have a few iconic necklace, bracelet, and earring sets in their lifetime collections, sets that collectors hope to find, sets that help define the identity of their jewellery company. Such is the 1948 Serpentine Collection by Coro. I was fortunate to be able to purchase this mint set from another collector in 2015; many of us love our jewellery, and I appreciate that it is often difficult to make any decision about parting with sets and items we love, but she had a second set.

Design Director: Adolph Katz. Gold- and rhodium-plated base metal. Clear and green rhinestones. Necklace is 16 3/4”. Bracelet is 7”. Earrings are approximately 1” x 1/2”. All set items are marked.

I have a copy of the patent ... and will post.

And thought it would be a good St. Patrick’s Day post for 2020 — snakes and all! Smiles.

Fabulous serpent collection by Coro, this is truly magnificent - the coil chains, eyes and tongues of the snakes are so realistically designed and just amazing! Kudos on owning this classic Coro set it is certainly a crown jewel

Thanks, Eileen for the added information. I have adjusted the posting to reflect that Adolph Katz was the Design Director, which research to this point seems to indicate was his title. Interesting information about Gene Verrecchia. I have info that indicates other influential designers at Coro included Oscar Placco, Robert Geissmann, Massa Raimond. Do you know what years Verrecchia was at Coro? Interested if they would have included supervision of the creation of this design. I do have a copy of the patent for this set; but it only includes Katz’s name — which was somewhat standard for Coro. Always interested in research findings of others. Although I have three degrees in history, and do do some research, I certainly do not know anywhere near everything about my jewellery. I thank you very much for your information ... any more you want to provide. Best —
