This all-original saw is over 165 years old! Made by Monhagen Saw Works (a.k.a Wheeler, Madden & Bakewell), out of Middletown, New York. You know it’s old when the blade is stamped (here, with “Bakewell Co”) rather than etched. And we know the age of this one based on the medallion. Handle also sports some beautiful split nuts and what appears to be an old handle repair with a brass brace in place of the lost/damaged lambs tongue portion of the handle.
One of my favorite discoveries with this saw can be seen in photo 4, where (I hope) you can see the impression left in the wood where its owner(s) appears to have indexed his/her finger so often, and for so many years, that it left a smooth indent into the wood!
