Is it a Napoleonic canon ball weighs about 10lbs solid. I don't know much about it a friend who is a civil war re enactment specialist. Said it was fired from a Napoleonic era canon 4 inch round does that mean it's a revolutionary war relic in Ohio
Cannon bore/pdr. dia. was fairly well standard in the Western world, but there were "fliers". 12 pdr. bore was 4.62" & the shot/ball should be 4.52". 9 pdr's were not very common. The recessed "4" tells me it isn't a cannon ball.
That it isn't a canon ball? I read that revolutionary war canons or mortars for say were shot not to explode or my other thought was it was a ball an chain we have a history of underground railroad also Henry Knox founded or our county was the artillery specialist for George Washington. They used to transport canon balls an canons via the railroad to the troops during civil war. Then I read that they used iron balls to roll cement in dirt basements wt is just a guess really it has a filled area with led or it was were the chain was cut off from a ball and chain I don't know why a 4 would be on it. Not a track an field shot put? Wt isn't right help a little more thank you for sure. I just want to id it correctly.
