This flower brooch made by VAN DELL I believe to be one of their earlier pieces, but I am not sure.
The Van Dell Corporation was founded in in 1938 in Providence Rhode Island, which is still a jewelry hub to this day. The company manufactured well made sterling silver, gold filled and gold plated jewelry rather than more commonly made costume jewelry in base metal. This is one of the reasons for the scarcity of the designs, since fine metal jewelry is not made in the quantities that costume jewelry was made .
Many of Van Dell’s designs used cultured pearls and interesting rhinestones and other stones such as Austrian Crystals. They also included genuine hand carved cameos in their range, which is a delight to me, since I adore cameo jewelry. The jewelry was of high quality and was meant to resemble fine jewelry. Some of their early pieces sold for $65 or more in the 1960s, which was quite expensive for the time.
The Blue rhinestone on the gold is a class act !~
it is really nice to see - I haven't cleaned it and it still shines. thanks PhilDMorris for your comments.
