Hi everyone :) I began an interest in glass as a late teenager over 30 years ago. The Boston and Sandwich Glass Co. was one of the most important glass manufacturers in the U.S. Every library book I was checking out would always have several pages about them along with photos. I always wanted to own something from them but thought I never would. Lo n behold....one of my favorite thrift stores here in Texas had this pair at in incredible price of $6 for the pair! They are app. 9 1/4 inches tall with the double step square base and 6 petal socket. Absolute perfect condition.
I'm trying to narrow down the app. year or time span. I don't THINK these have the earlier wafer style construction; I can see and feel a mold line running vertically on the edge of the wafer area. Another possible clue is that the wafer area is a little too perfect in shape as if it was molded. Real wafer were handblown when needed then workers quickly joined the chosen stem/socket combo. The wafer would have then been compressed to a slightly irregular shape and should not have any mold lines. So maybe mid 1800's?
