I just *knew* I was overlooking one more crate of assorted glassware from the cleanout house...went digging and found it this afternoon. [and alas, now my dishwasher is nearly full *again*, despite that it just ran/was emptied yesterday too...before this silly cleanout house project it'd take me at least a week to get it full enough to run...oh, my poor water/power bills to come... <sigh> ]

This one the funnest 'prizes' from that crate, if not from the entire haul of glass bits from the house so far...if nothing else because it remains the only (I think) glass bit of something possibly "old" that still has **both** its pieces together?!! From today's crate alone there are at least two other orphaned 'lids' for something candydish-ish and another bowl which might or not have ever had a lid, along with a few more pcs. of each still waiting for pics (I guess I'll havta do a 'random group of lids' one of these days too?) but of all, these are the ONLY two that obviously fit together. <woohoo!>

[and once more, from the likely never to be shown here dept. because its all totally contemporary -- I will likely NEVER havta snatch the odd bit of modern Pyrex/Corning *bakeware* again from the Goodwill even if only 99c...my collection of all that stuff (also helping to keep the dishwasher full as I continue to unpack everything then try to imagine where the h*ll I'm gonna *put* it all...??) has sorta, at least, tripled in so many recent weeks... ;-) :-)

The candydish measures about 6-1/2" across and about 5" tall total, the bowl itself about 2-1/2" deep. Fully 'smooth surfaced' inside, all its various patterning is on its exterior. No maker's marks anywhere on it, its bottom edge where it would have rested is essentially a slightly raised 'square' about 3-3/4" across with only very little 'tabletop wear' evident there -- other than that I haven't yet found so much as a fleabite chip on it anywhere. <woohoo, again?!>

Again I truly have no idea how old it might be...my guess would be mid century 1900's, if not even somewhat older than that -- mostly as somehow (also without any basis whatsoever) its pattern strikes me as slightly 'art-deco' in nature. OR, maybe it was a wally-world 'x-mas gift for a distant relative' set fresh offa the boat within the last 20 yrs...that theory, at least, would explain its relative good condition and why both halves of it were there to be found...?? ;-) :-) <lol>

CLUES WELCOMED, if anybody really does recognize anything about it!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

can't find confirmation but one listing mentions reference: "Anchor Hocking Glass Company introduced this in their 1956 catalogue, item #2056, called "Crystal Occasional Item."

Why am I not surprised with the prompt and EVER-SO-KIND advice/comment from TallCakes to help me ID this thing?? THANK YOU once more, TallCakes!!

      :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

For the record, there actually *WAS* (past tense) at least one real 'glass cake stand' also amongst the bins/boxes of stuff recovered mostly from the attic of the cleanout house...but much to my dismay, it happened to have been stored in one or two of those grungy boxes and bins that 'got loose' while others were getting them all down the fold-up attic steps...I heard the crash from where I was outside when that one in particular got "dropped" instead of "carried" down those stupid steps...by the time I got back inside to survey what they'd just done, the cake stand itself was in several pieces still inside its old newspaper wrapping...I only glanced briefly before just 'dumpster pile-ing it' because I didn't really wanna know whatever it might have been... :-(

Its probably matching LID, OTOH, did survive the big crash and is now otherwise still outside waiting its turn thru the dishwasher...it is nothing special in any way I can tell, other than being an unbroken plain glass 'cake lid' with no pattern/etc whatsoever -- but now with the distinction of having survived being dropped down the attic steps...?? <LOL>

Kind THANKS also to MALKEY, Newfld, fortapache, Watchsearcher, vetraio50, Brunswick Broochman, & aura for leaving your <love its>!!!
