If you found just the top cap it would be so expensive you would have no value in what you have. You would be better to sell this one for parts and buy one that is whole. They are common and not at all expensive.

Was a gift, sentimental value, if one comes up I'll consider it, but not willing to part with it. Thanks for your comment.

Agreeing w/ fhrjr2 that the chances of finding *only* an original replacement top cap might be generally impossible at best, and/or a mo$t expen$ive endeavor if you really did find one somewhere. <eeek> OTOH, AFAIK most of those brass fire extinguisher lids might be generally interchangeable with each other, as to their diameters/threads/whatever.

[If you fhrjr2 or anybody else can say otherwise, PLEASE speak up, I'd be happy to be proven wrong with that admittedly complete guess?!!]

Also be aware that all such extinguisher lids (that I've ever seen anyway, yes I really do have one of my own that I've never got around to showing here yet) also included numerous additional brackets/glass bottles/etc attached to their undersides, that most folks now looking at their pretty brass/copper exteriors probably don't realize ever existed in there. Many now otherwise 'museum quality' examples could in fact be missing at least those inner glass bottle parts, they being the most vulnerable.

I think I'd try to look not so much for a replacement "cap" than maybe an otherwise similar "damaged" (dented, bent, unpolished, trashed, whatever) extinguisher that might still have an intact-ish cap of its own. I also have no idea whether that's a realistic suggestion or not, it just seems logical to me somehow.

Even if you don't ever succeed at any such effort, rest assured that I (at least) still see it as a MOST LOVELY thing JUST as you've shown it to us here, whether it has a lid or not. That it has a personal connection to you is just that much more 'icing on the cake'.

      And welcome to CW, BTW... :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
