Bought these at Tower Records back in the 80s. Going to Tower Records on El Cajon Blvd in San Diego was one of our sources of amusement back in the 1980s. They were open until midnight. Oh yes this was when I lived at the dorms at San Diego State U. Plus we would hit Off The Record (used record store) on the way back.
There was much more there then records such as these art cards. They were a bit like post cards but bigger. The size was 6" x 8" on heavy stock. Now for part 3 of this post.
Roger Dean was known mostly for his Yes album artwork. His artwork tends to mix organic with technology as seen here. A bit less so with the Yes Albums but it can be seen in his logo seen on the back of one of these cards, the airplane logo seen on the Yes albums and others. He did albums for other groups too. I'll post the Gentle Giant Octopus cover some time. I think the first photo is the called the Black Bat. Not sure about the fly.
Last is from the Yessongs album cover. That is the last part of a series of paintings also worth a further post.
Awesome! That little 'airplane' 'ship' in the third pic is the 'Rocinante'
Thank you very much iggy. I seem to have misplaced my Views Roger Dean book.
According to the book 'Views' 1st pic is entitled 'Black Plane' and 2nd is 'Scarab'.
Thank you very much iggy. Good info.
