This presumed momma and baby are mostly 'feral' I suppose, that otherwise occupy their general territory nearby a local c-store where the owners/employees put a little food/water out for them (by the ice machine outside, just outta the frame to the RH side in pic 2) every day. I've never spotted more than 'momma' herself there (who looks like she's gotta fresh litter growing in her again....it is 'that' time of year once more, ain't it??) until this afternoon when we must have accidentally stopped by right after the 'food dish' got its refill. :-)
Neither are likely nearly accustomed/friendly to all the random people coming and going, the closest I've ever been able to get to momma myself (who's lived there for a year+ now, at least?) was while she was otherwise hiding under another car in the lot, just watching all that goes on, where I on every opportunity I do see her I at least kneel for a moment and 'talk' to her...
It was an absolutely unexpected and delightful surprise this afternoon to spot the two of 'em together beside the store, again presumably just after they'd had their afternoon 'snackies'. The 'zoom' thing on my phonecam helped a little for pics 2 & 3, fortunately I was able to manage to make that work without otherwise getting too close to either to scare 'em off.
ENJOY, everybody. We ALL deserve a little unexpected bit of smile/joy in our lives right now...hope this helps a little for a few of y'all as it did for me.

At my mom’s house, there were feral cats who got well fed - they apparently lived in the woods nearby. They never were friendly- even when the food was being put out, they remained skittish and would dart away if any move was made in their direction.
When they started multiplying, my sister and I trapped them one or two at a time and took them to a vet who neutered/spayed them and gave some shots. The vet would make a tiny notch in an ear to ID the ones he operated on. After a night at the vet’s office, we released them back with their clan and reset the trap for another patient.
I hope we broke the cycle of the poor cats multiplying and made their lives easier.
They knew where they were welcomed with food but remained very wild and defensive.
Very sad cases but we did the best we could for them.
Those you pictured might benefit from being captured and treated to a “spa” day at the vet’s, especially if their numbers are increasing.
I’m glad folks like you are trying to befriend them and help them out.
Super cute calico cats!
Love how Junior has the dilute blue - cream version of Mama's tortie colours...
I also like to take snaps of random cats that I see - will have to post some!
My belated THANKS to Watchsearcher and IronLace for your kind comments -- also to fortapache, Newfld, vetraio50, Watchsearcher, Brunswick, Broochman, IronLace, hotairfan, iggy, aura, Trey, and scottvez for tapping your <love it> buttons for these two little cuties!!
I just changed out one of my original pics for what is now #1 taken this afternoon when I stopped at the same c-store -- it was not only considerably warmer here today but also rather calm in the parking lot at the time, there was also a little (empty) paper tray sitting there suggesting both Momma and Baby (who was also out there but skittered away) had just had a snack. Momma was relaxing in a shady spot and actually allowed me close enough to her to snap a couple quick pics -- THEN even to give her a few brief scritchies/rubs. A couple hrs later on a return visit to the same store <groan> she was still out there, but didn't wanna be bothered... <lol>
