Sharky

Hi everybody. Those of you familiar with the term "sick glass" will get sick themselves over this little gem. This is one of a pair of Fostoria "American" shakers that suffers from some serious cloudiness. The other shaker is the crystal clear quality Fostoria is known for. Maybe this one was used for salt? "Sick" glass occurs over time when water is allowed to dry on the surface and mineral deposits are left behind. These deposits will eventually form the white surface you see here. In my opinion this is an extremely bad case. I have decanters that are nearly impossible to hand dry the interior, thus over years the base and lower areas form this cloudiness. I even have a Tarentum Glass Co. "Albany" pitcher/creamer that due to the very deep nature of the pressed pattern (similar to Higbees' "Gem") has built up some deposits in the deepest areas of the pattern. (It is a pain-in-the-butt to dry :) Enjoy
