In previous post I showed my Stromberg Carlson wood wall phone. My problem now is figuring how to securely hang it on the wall. Using my scale at home it weights right at 25 pounds. I’d swear it is 40 or more every time I pick it up. I’m adding photos of the phone to show the location of current holes. They are pretty small in the back. The front looks like they have pegs or filled in with something. I’ve attached photo of both. I have no idea if that original or not. Those little holes are the back are not quite 7 inches apart. My wall studs are wider than that. Long story short, please help.
The holes have been pegged. I do it all the time on stuff. As for hanging it, originally there would have been what is called deadwood in the wall. That simply means wooden blocking to hang it from just like if you were hanging upper kitchen cabinets. One thing you could do is make a backer board that will span your existing studs, mount the phone to it and in the excess area have a clipboard as if for writing notes or even a small shelf to set ones coffee etc on while on the phone.

There are some 'phones like yours in the article. Hope it helps.
@fhrjr2
Thank you for your suggestion. It sounds quite reasonable. I’m going to see if I have the capability to do that.
Hello, Floridagaldeb.If you are tight on wall space I would use the existing holes. I would carefully drill out from the back with a bit the same size as the existing hole. Be sure to put a block of wood under the pegs while drilling!! There is a brand name product called Toggler Hollow Wall Anchors. I am guessing the holes in the back are around 1/8-3/16, so you would want a 3/16-24 Toggler.You should be able to find the anchors at HD. Each anchor in that size is rated at 238 pounds in 1/2" drywall. Regards, Lou
@lpools
We weren’t wondering about that but wondered about the holes being so small. So your suggesting not finding a wall stud and it’s possible the toggle anchor would work? Would you use 4? There are 2 on top and 2 on bottom. I’m trying to envision what it would look like after you drill through. Wouldn’t the screw heads show and stand out?
@lpools
I’m sorry, I forgot to mention that I appreciate you taking your time to respond. My mistake. ????
They do make drywall inserts for hanging heavy objects in drywall. The weight they support is on the package. Oops I see someone already mentioned wall anchors. And yes drill out the original holes. It should be fine.
Hello, I am only guessing that the plugged holes are the original mounting holes. 2 Togglers at top would be more than enough to carry the weight. Putting 2 more anchors at the bottom would keep the back of the phone tighter to the wall, so if the wall is flat, I would leave them out at the bottom.You could use a flat head slotted screw in the Toggler, with what is called a finish washer, usually plain steel, easily painted if you choose to do so. I don't know what is under the peg, but once you have drilled from the back, you could try to remove the the peg. You may find a counterbored hole to insert the screw, and then you could cap the holes with a raised plug. Is there a place on the site to post pictures of the hardware I am referring to? I would be glad to do so!! Regards, Lou
Hello, What does the front of the phone look like? Am I seeing a door? You could put new holes in a less conspicuous spot!!
full view of the front in open position might help here. Looks like you could mount to the wall from inside the phone on a single wall stud by adding a new mounting hole that wouldn't show on the exterior of the phone, That way there's no need to remove the existing wood plugs and attempt to repair and match the finish...
@TallCakes
Thanks for taking your time for me. I’m posting a number of new photos for you to look at. I like your idea.

Please forgive me for not responding to your replies in ref to my Stromberg phone. It was rude of me. Unfortunately, my severely and mentally handicapped son was in the hospital up in Gainesville Florida at University of Florida Shands Hospital. To be honest I forgot all about me request. We were in the hospital for 2 months and almost lost him. He did lose his right kidney. It was a very difficult time for us. If you don’t want to reply after I try to answer you questions and add photos. I have already posted a number of photos previously that should show all the positions you asked for. I’m not sure why you can’t see them. I’ll gladly post the ones from all the angles you requested. Once again I apologize for being rude by not not returning your posts. I’m not sure exactly how this all works but I’ll post as many at a time it will let me. I think I remember there is a limit. I’ll post the other in how many other post it takes. Bear with me and my inexperience.
No need for an apology. Family comes first. I believe everyone else here would agree.
@fhrjr2 thank you for understanding
Agree 100% -- FAMILY comes first. :-)
Another thought re: the plugged holes, depending on how whoever plugged them actually did it, you might (before the drill method) first try carefully tapping them out with a small punch and gentle hammer taps, from the backside, to see if they'd actually just 'pop back out' of the original holes...??
