This is a basket made by the Choctaw tribe. It was made with Rivercane for the weave and the handle is Oak. So beautiful, it does have some damage at the corners which is expected with age and it looks like it was used also. I just love the artistry that goes into making these baskets, the time it takes to find the materials and waiting until the maker sees what they are about to make in their mind before they even start. The measurements are approx. 20 inches in height (including the handle) by approx. 12 inches in diameter. It is a really nice handmade basket that has stood the test of time and use, and came through it relatively unscathed. It does have some damage at the rim with the splints used to lash the rim coming undone. But that to me just adds charm and lets me know that this basket had alot of use by it's previous owner.

Thanks for the "love" on this basket, scandinavian_pieces. This is one of my favs, although it does have some damage to the rim. The patina is wonderful on this oldie.
