I love jewelry and its history. I want pieces from all eras and my focus changes a bit over time. But when it comes to bakelite jewelry I never lose interest. It is an ongoing loveaffair ha ha LOL :) Some of you know what I am tolkning about.
My latest piece is a mustard yellowish bakelite bangle that you see in the first photo to the left, together with a wine colored bangle that has everything going for it being bakelite. The red wine color unusual so I am not 100 % sure it is bakelite but it is highly likely. It passed all bakelite tests I know you. You can see the yellow and the winered bangles with other bakelite bangles in the other photos.
Vintage plastic jewelry are so easy to like. Don't you think?
Thank you Ms.ChrystalShip! That is the word for these colors. Mary has seen the red bangle in photos and I think we were both a bit reluctant about the color, if it is bakelite or not. The colors in these photos looks more bright red but it really is darker and more wine red. But morning glory antiques had a wine red bakelite bangle for sale recently so maybe this one is also bakelite. Anyway it is a nice bangle :) like you say kind Ms.ChrystalShip. Have a nice day. It is friday morning here.
That is ok Mary :)
Blue in general seams unusual? But in for example The Bakelite Jewelry Book by Davidov and Dawes - think you have it too Mary - page 81 there is a Junion Jack pin from 1936. And on page 55 there are some Chrome and bakelite earrings from germany/austria that are almost babyblue. But yes they are not the same kind of blue as my bangle. Wine red is a color I find most difficult to trust in photos, is it dark red I see or brown or what? On page 41 there is a Chanel bangle that looks wine red to me. On page 31 and 111 there are rootbeats that looks wine red and on page 129 there is a glass of red wine that - if it is not painted - defently looks like wine red bakelite.
But still colors in photos are difficult to trust. That is very evident when I take photos of my own jewelry. Sometimes colors will not turn out the same as in real life. Very frustrateing :) LOL
A little (!!!) bakélite collection for your eyes :-D
