I found this thing of fabric in the antique shop. I could not guess what it was and had to ask. The lady in the shop said it is something they used back in the days to protect their stockings with. I guess you put them in this thing to protect them from other things in your purse/bag? I bought it because my jewelry will look good on it :)
The thing is 36 cm x 18 cm and handmade in some kind of silky fabric. Cream white. I am guessing it is from the 40's.

Is there a name for this thing? //

Thanks to Keramikos I now know the thing I bought is a hosiery bag.

Keramikos a thousand thanks for the right word and for that fantastic story that really makes you understand why they would even have a special bag for the stockings in the first place! :) I can't imagine mending something like that?! Oh my!

You'd want to keep silk stockings in a hosiery bag like this. It's beautiful.
