      Was your grandfather a WWII veteran? If so, maybe a souvenir that he came back with?

      Yes he was. Without knowing a great deal about the war, it just seemed odd to me that he’d return with a German police bayonet.

      Daggers and bayonets were plentiful and very popular souvenirs for WWII soldiers.

      BTW, the police came under Himmler's sphere and were SS.
