    FiremanSam
    (1 item)

Good morning, I hope you are all well in this testing time. My name is Glenn Ingram and I live in the U.K. I was a fireman in the London Fire Brigade for many years until I broke my back in a fall in 1990 which led to me being pensioned out in 1991 after 20 years service. This is mainly a query for Manakin. Many years ago there was a film called "On Golden Pond" in this film there was a doll on the mantle piece called Elmer, when I was retired from the Fire Service my wife thought she would buy me a doll and called it Elmo. Now the question please? It is made of Porcelain or Bisque it is a male doll and it has porcelain hands, arms, legs, feet and face, the rest of the doll is cloth or composition. On the back of the neck it has large letter K followed by Star of David and then the Letter R. In the Star of David appears to be a letter which I think is an A, underneath this is the numbers 114, then under that is two initials PM. His shoulders are made of Porcelain but under that all the rest of him is soft. Could you please let me know if this is original and if yes how old could he be? We have a new Great Grandson and I was wondering if it is worth saving Elmo for him. He is dressed in a Blue & White Sailors outfit with straw boater on his head. Thank you so much for your help. Glenn Ingram

Hi you lovely doll is a reproduction of a a antique doll by Kammer & Reinhardt named Gretchen doll. It is actually a girl . PM are initials of person that painted the blank mold in a doll making class . So Monetary value not as high as sentimental value .:-) Making these reproductions dolls was at it's peak in 1980s-90s . At that time must antique dolls were to expensive for most so ceramic studios made copy of their molds to sell . Your doll still sells high if she was a original. https://www.rubylane.com/item/589310-wth62009-3898/Very-Beautiful-15-Inch-Kammer-Reinhardt?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1N-YksGL6QIVRZFbCh2lcQP0EAQYAiABEgIO4_D_BwE

Thank you so much for the promptness of your reply and also your expertise in this subject. We thought that perhaps because his/her (never thought I would have a doll with gender identity issues!!!) body, legs etc were cloth or soft filling that it was original. It matters not as he/she is wonderful and sits on the shelf surrounded by teddy bears (one Steiff) and rabbits and is a valued member of the family. Thank you once again. Glenn (Fireman Sam)
