I just love this brooch. It is hard to take photos that does it justice because of the facettes of the large stone and its deep purple color it can look dark and dramatic in one light and in another it looks lighter and almost pink. Sometimes the trees outside wants to mirrow themselves in the flat table of the large stone and everything else becomes blury in the photo...
The brooch is 4 cm long, 2,8 cm across and 1 cm high. The large stone - might be glass - is about 3,5 cm long and surrounded by 30 small facetted stones that are clear and with no color. I think the setting of the large stone is quite nice.

The stones are intact and after I have cleaned it looks almost new but it is not.
I have an idea about its age but would like to ask for your opinion without influencing anyone of my own opinion because I might be wrong. Please let me know what you think.

Mary don't be sorry :) I am thankful for your thoughts. A lot of what makes jewelry investigations fun is to guess together with others to get close to the right facts. I just wrote something in your last post. Love you dear friend!

And Mary since I haven't gotten a lot of answers I can go ahead and say that yes I agree with you on the age, that is what I was thinking but can't decide if it might perhaps end up on the other side of the next century? Somewhere about 1890-1910? Hard to say. And I really can't argue why I think that :) LOL

Nice brooch! Around 1900 I think. Otherwise the pin should have been longer.

      Glorious color!
      Glass/crystal and paste rhinestones.
Agree with Hel1 for the date, no tube hinge and not so long needle.

Yes Kyratango I must agree on your observations. Thank you! Yes the color is fantastic. Normaly I don't like purple but this one I fell for since it is a deep dark purple in the evening light. Nice of you to stop buy.

Ms.ChrystalShip sorry I only saw your coment here now. Yes I have also red that about the round pins but have also red that this type of round pin where the pin is one single piece on pads were made primarily as repair parts since 1930. Due to the style of the brosch with the shape, the amethist colored chrystal stones enclosed by the "white" ones together with the pin extending beyond and the c-clasp makes me think this is earlier. But I could be wrong ofcourse :)
