This is a rare and curious molded glass honey jar from the Uruguayan food company "La Positiva" (The Positive One).

The company "La Positiva De Davyt Hnos. Y Cia." (The Positive One, of Davyt Bros. and Co.) was founded in 1930 as a small family business, making milk candy, honey, cheese and jam and evolved to a relatively big food company that is still in business today (http://lapositiva.com.uy/).

The jar is heavy, made with thick glass and has these two giant bees on the sides, very Art Deco in my opinion.

The original screw lid is brown Bakelite. The jar has the company name embossed on the front side. It measures 17cm high by 10,5cm wide. Hope you like it!

Thank you WesternPA-Collector. I agree, this is a very fancy glass for such a cheap product. I guess they had a very creative person in charge of the "marketing". And apparently he or she was right, as they are still in business.

I would imagine such a gorgeous bee jar would cost a fortune of over 3 bills here. Its very beautiful as everything you post seems to have a lot of thought to it. It must be very rare, I wonder if the company who made it have one in their collection !~

Hey Phil, thanks for your comment. It wasn't cheap in Brazilian terms, I paid 90 bucks for it, but it is truly a survivor, in perfect condition. The sad thing is that there's no market for collectibles in Brazil. People down here usually don't have interest in their past or in history or in art in general. It is an educational problem, common to underdeveloped countries, I guess. That said, it is extremely difficult to make money with antiques and collectibles down here. Thanks for the love, my friend.

Myself, I think you got it reasonably enough, especially for the probable rarity of the bee jar. I guess you don't even get The Antiques Roadshow on your cable there? A lot of antiques here, especially things like the oil lamps, have not gone up in so many years, and not collected by the younger generations. Your collection is great because it really is refined and makes people think !~

Phil, no we don't have Antiques Roadshow down here, but I watch it on YouTube all the time and I learn a lot from it, and I trust my nose basically LOL. I mostly buy stuff to have them near me, to restore them and look at them and admire their design. I have some pieces that are true jewels that I would be interested in selling but as I told you, there's no market here. I would love to be able to carry them to US or Europe and sell them in auction.
