Finally today a new designer for me a Michael Allen Bolton torque choker. This piece is just wonderful I wear It whenever I go out, it looks fantastic. The torque was made in 1975 it is fully marked for MAB, it is silver with applied gold dots on one side and all silver on the other.
MAB was a self taught silversmith with a distinctive style, was among the top dozen or so designer craftsmen working in silver.. His work has been collected by individuals and institutions, and he received commissions from cathedrals, city livery companies and corporations.
He was born in (1938-2005) between 1975 and 1981 he exhibited at the Goldsmiths company Loot exhibitions and in 1996 contemporary silver tableware exhibition. In the latter catalogue he stated that his work was:
Inspired by the magic and aura of Celtic Roman and Anglo-Saxon metalwork, the romanticism of the King Arthur legends, and the ethics and ideology of the late 19th and early 20th century British Arts and Crafts movement.
Bolton worked mainly to commission with young designers and assistants in Launceston, Cornwall, boasting a number of high profile clients.
