My Grandmother gave me this lamp years ago. As a very young child I can remember its glowing light comforting me at night when we would visit her. If anyone has information about this lamp i would greatly appreciate. I miss you Nana.

Your piece has been repainted which is a disappointment, but that said, the glass balls were made by Pairpont Glass. The Figure called Contemplar was originally sculpted by Fugere in 1927. H.B. Hirsch was the Foundry in N.Y.C which made the spelter lamp. The figure may have a plastic face, that is a plus, but some were made in metal and a part of the piece. The base was made of alabaster it looks like, most likely but based on your picture I cannot tell. They usually have Italy stamped on the base of the alabaster since they got their bases usually from Italy. Hirsch dug up the original moulds which were hidden under the foundry floor originally in Paris at WW2, and they usually were made in fairly large numbers immediately after the war, I have several of these lamps as I collect them they are fairly desirable still because of the design. Hirsch produced these from after the war until about 1970's with varying finishes and colours. See link for more info :
