This 1 1-2" butterfly brooch was made in Germany before WW2 when Alice Caviness (1945-1997) produced sterling jewelry from there. The multi color enamel is in great condition but the silver back has pitting, still the marks remain. Paired with a compatibly colored blue glass 5" diagonal butterfly from Westmoreland Glass from 1972-1983
I love your posts so much Jennie, it's not just your beautiful things it's also your signature matching of subjects glass:jewellery.
This is beautiful.
That's a stunning brooch! I love all the beautiful colours in it and yeah it does look like all the colours of blown glass, the wings are so detailed too and really nicely segmented like a real butterfly wing.
These are really nice.I always look forward to the interesting things you post here. Thanks for sharing Jenni.
That first pic is awesome, both of the butterflies are lovely!

Karen your super kind praise makes me feel so good, I can't thank you enough for your lovely words about enjoying my glass and jewelry pairings, I don't always get a perfect match but this time the butterflies just seemed made for each other
Oh aura it is wonderful to read your sweet compliment and it delights me that you found this post beautiful, I am so glad to please you for your kindness and generosity toward myself & others here :)
Appreciate the fantastic compliments Lauren thank you so much! I was really lucky to find both of these vintage butterflies, and to have them pick up the blue color together was a nice surprise. Yes the brooch has a very true to life enamel design, to think it has survived any damage for @ 80 yrs is totally amazing
Thanks Ken for the fabulous praise, agree the Westmoreland butterfly has an almost ethereal quality, it's a great blue and love its detailing
Your thoughtful words mean so much to me jb, I am truly thrilled that you enjoy my posts and weekly "throw togethers", I try to make them interesting and balanced esp for kind friends like yourself who always uplift me, thank you so much :)
Sincere thanks MrsT for your great compliment and seeing what I saw, that first pic only needed one "take", I instantly noticed the compatibility for those two butterflies, with the glass one enhancing the brooch colors (or vice versa)
Phil thank you for the terrific praise and agree the Caviness is a lovely realistic butterfly of I believe the monarch family, her surviving forties sterling pieces had incredible designs (the marcasite edging is lovely here), I also love my green turtle by her. Many are critical of butterfly jewelry because it was a common theme, but I love them & never get tired of them
Thank you Kevin for the thoughtful love it's very much appreciated :)
Thanks Thomas & vcal for the love for this blue butterfly duo, very glad you liked it & appreciate the kind support
Thanks Giana & Leelani for the love for this butterfly combo post, very glad that you both liked them & always grateful for the kind appreciation
