I have not been able to identify this lamp. It came with no shade so no help there. All I was told, as frequently heard, belonged to an elderly relative. I've had it for 20 years. It is glass with a black metal base. Large, heavy and the gold decor is 'embossed?' Any help is appreciated.

This lamp is from the early 70's. Most of them were not signed, in fact very, very few. They sometimes had a light in the bottom glass piece, especially if it has a trilight switch to it, which those had. They were made in California mainly and also in Italy, where many were made.
Those companies that made them also made low tables so it likely sat on a low table.
Thanks for the information Mr.Morris. do you have any idea what type of shade this would have had? Funny thing, I've tried different shades but Hatless, (her name until we find one) seems to yell at me to take it off. So she goes without. Shameless but everytime I see her with a shade on it just doesn't look "right". It's been 20 years she said so here I am.
This kind almost always had the simple rounded one but usually a very long or high shade I think are about 30 inches long in most cases. Here is a similar example escept that it is a lot big around but it is big and long:

My father had one of these lamps and his was dated 1973 and had a long shade. I actually switched shades and put a more modern shade from the 1980's on it. Though that is probably the wrong thing to do - but I thought it looked a lot better.
There were many companies started up all over america at the time, and especially lamp companies were part of thriving import and export businesses, so it really is hard to say where it was made. You could add a better picture of the bottom as it is impossible to guess all the time at what it looks like.
