This little vase is 4.75" high x 4" in diameter and weighs 1.5 lbs. The white glass is pearlescent, but I had trouble capturing that. It has an indistinct signature, but "ZBS" and the date "1980" are very clear. The decoration is all applied glass. This was identified as a Bohemian Zelezny Brod Sklo Forget-Me-Not bud vase by the seller, but I didn't think it was, as I could find nothing like this made in Czechoslovakia during this time period and it didn't, to my eye, look as refined as I would expect it to be if that was an accurate identification. The flower also looked more like a trillium than a Forget-Me-Not. I thought this vase looked more like American studio art glass, but now embrace the identification as Zelezny Brod Sklo. I am not sure of the story behind this piece, though. I am sure that there is one and hope that someday someone will tell it to me. Leaving this as Unsolved until the artist or studio is identified.

Is that a signature on the side there Kevin?
As far as I know US artists are the only ones to sign the sides of vessels.
I think it’s delightful. I have a thing for opaque glass, and flowers too.

Thanks for your comment! Yep, that is a signature Karen. I am working on deciphering it and getting a decent image.. The vase looks pretty nice depending on which side you look at. Too bad the artist was so clumsy in terminating the applied lines....

I wrestled with this vase for a while this morning and finally got some marginally better images of the "signature". It may be a name with the first name starting with a "B" and the second name maybe starting with a "Z"? The second "name" may not even be a name, but maybe initials, something like "ZBI"? Odd how the date is at right angles and below the signature, but it all looks to have been done with same tool and at the same time. Working on bettering the first three images, too. Any help on puzzling out this inscription may prevent attempted suicide by chocolate....

The signature is ZBS and your original seller was correct.

It seems pretty awkwardly done and I can't find anything else like it. Nothing dated...

Minus the decoration, it is pretty nice though...
