A strange puzzle of a desk with rollout table

I picked up this interesting piece today and I’m having all sorts of trouble trying to even form a google search on it. The story from the seller was that his parents purchased it back in the 30s or 40s and it’s been in the family since. He said his jerk brother in law painted it black a decade ago and he hated that he ruined it. It was cheap enough that I purchased it for personal use and a potential refinishing project, but I can’t find any sort of makers mark or any sort of online info and was hoping someone here might know where I can learn more about this very different desk/table.
