    Hi there!
I bought this pretty necklace at a flea market (in France) last weekend and I wanted to show it here. I have no idea of its origin... It's silver (marked "925" at the back of the medallion) and the medallion seems to be carnelian. I've seen similar pieces listed as "Turkish silver niello jewelry"...
Any help on this would be welcome! Thanks! ;)

Am I wrong when I say it looks italian to me? I also think this is vintage but "flirting" with the victorian time.

Absolutely. This engraving process is called "niello" (an Italian word). According to the dictionary, "niello is a black compound of sulphur with silver, lead, or copper, used for filling in engraved designs in silver or other metals". However, I've found out that this necklace is Turkish and you're right, it looks Victorian, though it was probably made in the 1970s-80s. :)

Great info Betty. I searched online for "turkish multi strand necklace" and found several examples of them. Here is one. Maybe your stone is carnelian as well. Looks like it. https://www.hautevintagejewels.com/products/vintage-sterling-silver-red-carnelian-bracelet-multi-chain-niello-turkish-middle-eastern-slide-out-clasp-breathtaking-c413.

And great that you found out it was turkish. Have seen this style before and haven't been able to pin point the origin since I know niello has been used in several countries. When I was looking online for these now, with the info ftom you about turkish, I also saw some with multi color enamel instead of niello. Also very beautiful.
