These rice bowls are about 2.5" high x 5.75" in diameter, with tomobako and signed on the bottom. The seller of these bowls identified them as tea bowls, but they seem much too large for that purpose, more the size of rice or noodle bowls. The bowls are blue porcelain with incised lotus flower decoration and maker stamped on the bottom. The seller speculated that they were an homage to Jun ware which was produced in China during the Song Dynasty. Another item purchased from the estate of an American professor who taught at a Japanese university in the 1990s. He collected and mailed many things he liked back to the U.S. but never used them. This is another research opportunity and was very inexpensive. I have started buying some books on Japanese pottery. Sigh.
