These hand painted yunomi are 3.5" high x 3" in diameter, signed on the bottom, with tomobako. The tomobako has a bit of damage which should be easy to repair. In sharp contrast to another set of yunomi which I recently posted, the painting on these is impeccable, no errors. They are also painted on all sides which I appreciate. This is another item from the collection of the American professor who taught at a Japanese university in the 1990s and sent many items back to the States, but never used them. I am building a small collection of various styles of yunomi, all in tomobakos and with the potential for some research fun. Not sure where these were made in Japan or who made them, yet.

You may not want to do this Kevin, but I have found the people in the Facebook group Collecting Japanese Ceramics and Art very helpful.
It seems like your pieces have come from a good collection!

What pleasing yunomi! I wonder if the design is meant to be pomegranate (zakuro). I do think this is likely to be Japanese-made, judging by the tomobako.

Meoto-yunomi are one of my weaknesses also. Do you use your yunomi* or do you mainly collect and enjoy looking at them?

*I'm new to Collectors Weekly so I'm not sure if this question is heresy! ;)

Thanks for your comment, rhineisfine, and welcome to CW! The decoration is pomegranate, I am pretty sure. Some of my yunomi I use and some I don't. These particular yunomi are 30ish years old and have never been used so I will probably not use them, or maybe only a few times only, to assess their construction. You really can't fully appreciate something until you use it, IMHO...
