My memory is good sometimes, when I saw these, my heart skipped, as I own a copy of the large Harrach book, and the colors and designs of these large plinths, was familiar.
I had to check the book to make sure, and yes, not only was there a complete stand and top glass tazza, there was a drawn image showing how the two pieces fit together.
The irony is the seller had no idea what he had, his description was a pair of antique American glass candle holders....
Now I am on a mission to find a least one chalice, or footed bowl to add to these rare wonderful glass pieces. Hope you enjoy and share my delightful find.
Awesome plinths Lisa, the classic Roman figures & border design are so very beautiful, kudos on a rare find
Great find and nice to have a good memory, too!
Thank you for the fine comments, Jenni, Kevin, and Leah.
I forgot to say they were 7 inches tall, and the top fitting area is close to 3 inches and 1/2 high. I'm also surprised how well the painted areas have weathered over a century and a half, unless this is another Harrach design that was re-introduced at a later date 1900-1910s.
There is much wear to the gilding at the top due to handling with the second portion of the 2 part piece. Otherwise the gilding has oxidized a bit to a duller sheen.
It's not going to be easy to find 2 upper pieces to fit with these bases. I am exploring other options, such as lamps, or compatible glass pieces, but not matching pieces.
Thank you for all the loves CW members, always much appreciated.
P.S. You are right Leah, just checked and they are UV reactive. Thank you.
