Winston Churchill was prime minister of the United Kingdom during World War II. And is known as inspirational leader of Allied victory. He assumed leadership of a national government after the resignation of Conservative Neville Chamberlain, whose policy of appeasing Hitler proved to be a failure. In total, Churchill was variously an MP and prime minister for all years between 1900 - 1964, except 1922 -1924.
Churchill Quote: “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.”
Winston Churchill is considered the greatest modern prime minister of the United Kingdom.
Churchill Quote: “I have never accepted what many people have kindly said, namely that I have inspired the nation. It was the nation and [those] dwelling all around the globe that had the lion heart. I had the luck to be called upon to give the roar.” — See “The Roar of the Lion.”
These books are a personal memoir. Churchill was not an academic historian. General consensus among reviewers through the decades are that they are a fairly-rendered popular history. Churchill, a great orator, as well as a skilled politician and writer states his goal moral for the series is: “In War: Resolution, In Defeat: Defiance, In Victory: Magnanimity, In Peace: Goodwill.” Winston Churchill received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 for this work.
These sets are not rare. The set I own is in somewhat rough condition ... does not have book jackets; but I’m okay with that. The jackets disappeared before the books were rehomed to me.
Churchill’s Most Famous Quote (of course is): “We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.
Cheers!
