I purchased these at a garage sale. The man said they were his grandmother's. He said she would go to Arizona and brought back lots of Native American items. Can anyone tell me anything about them? The large one is about 13 inches tall. The smaller on is about 9 inches.
Unfortunately, these are not Native American Indian.
They are traditional Mexican pottery water jars (botellon de barro), from Tonala, in the state of Jalisco.
This particular type of pottery is called canelo (cinnamon) brunido. A search for "canelo pottery" or "Mexican water jug", it will confirm this identification. They come with a matching cup that fits upside down over the neck of the pot, and have been popular souvenir items for years.
Unlike traditional Native American pottery, these were made on a potter's wheel, which Mexican potters used, Native American potters never did.
