We found this ring amongst my mother's effects (in the USA). I'm guessing it is a man's wedding ring, perhaps! The initials don't match anyone in our family's history, so we're really puzzled about it. If it's not a man's wedding ring, what else might it be? Thanks for any hints or suggestions, or even an outright identification!

what about the 18 stands for 1918 .... and what about a school ring maybe ...
Any marks on the inside that might tell all...?

Thanks Maryjo. I'm guessing the 18 is for 1918. I thought that for a school ring, with two pairs of letters the second pair should be HS, not HH. I don't know about the inner surface, but I've asked my brother to look and let me know.

Maybe it is WJ High H (a city)

Thanks for the hints and ideas. I've worked it out after my clever wife suggested that maybe WJ stands for West Jersey (where my mother's family lived). Aha!!! Decoded, the ring tells its story - it is a pinky ring and was the nursing class ring of my mother's aunt, who graduated from West Jersey Homeopathic Hospital (Camden NJ) in 1918. Immediately after her graduation she travelled to France as an army nurse for the (brief) duration of the Great War. Thanks again!
