My folks brought this over from Holland. Love the faces, it always creeped me out as a kid, but I know little else other than a note that claimed it was from around 1650.
Lots of restored bits over the years .
Really interesting but not sure about the 1650's though. I think it's called a "Beeldenkast" in Dutch. The faces don't have a 17th century look to my eye. I'm interested to see what others say. Love those bun feet.
Baroque style, but looks more like late 19th ct to me.
It is more made to resemble Italian Renaissance style, but without the carving on the doors it looks late 19th century. Also you have to watch Dutch antiques as during the 1950's they imported much furniture from the Netherlands and recently also many businesses have started up importing containers of these antiques, although this does not look like the style they put out in the 1950's. Late 19th century after 1890 or so. I almost bought a more larger carved version in 1995 to use for the many books that I have. Very nice refined style.
