      Nothing sucks like an Electrolux.

The COMPACT and TRI-STAR will suck *circles* around any Electrolux ever built...one of my own TRI-STARs still faithfully cleans my own home whenever I'm motivated enough to actually run it...and there's at least half a dozen various Suck-o-Luxes (borrowing the bastardized brand name from the Roger Rabbit movie) of various styles/vintages hanging around here too... ;-) :-) :-)

Well my electrolux zb 89 has good suction whit a vinyl hose i find it for 60 $ .
My Tristar cxl and Compact are thanks tho aka the big guns stronger air flow but for dayli use i use all3 they all work great .

My 'daily driver' TRI-STAR is a model DXL (silver-ish paint job) if I'm reading its label correctly. The 2nd one (buried in the basement, so I can't check its label at the moment) is likely a newer model, but still with a silver-ish paint job.

I consider myself *incredibly lucky* to have literally picked both up from other folks' curbside trash piles within the last decade or so...no doubt whatsoever that those people didn't have the slightest clue what wonderfully designed/engineered machines they actually are.

      http://www.tristarclean.com/about/

Don't get me wrong -- I luvvs me some classic Suck-O-Luxes too, but as matter of fact I learned the inherent beauty of the TRI-STAR machines during a brief (and largely unsuccessful, when they were painted sorta red) stint, many years ago, attempting to be a door to door (mostly) salesman for the things. It didn't help a whole lot that their list price at the time was roughly double the KIRBY vacuums -- also mostly then sold via 'in home demonstrations' vs. storefronts, also at a quite higher price than anything else that could be otherwise just bought at a store. KIRBY machines, though the lovely polished aluminum things they have mostly always been, are simply lacking in actual 'cleaning ability', which they try to make up for with all the polished metal and various other 'attachments' which few of their buyers ever actually use.

You can literally suck a full quart or two of beach sand (include a handful of 1" dia. steel balls, for fun?) into a TRI-STAR and it won't lose *a bit* of its initial suction power while still pulling copious amounts of otherwise gray/black/yeecch crap from the depths of your household carpet or wherever you really didn't wanna know it was otherwise lurking...Suck-o-Luxes (and Kirbys) can't do that no matter how they're also both 'fun' examples of vintage vacuums.

Oddly enough, my experience also taught me that the closest 'most efficient' vacuum at the time was the then typical (and much more 'affordable') SEARS KENMORE canister, ifn's it still had its original powerhead. I've got one or two of those banging around somewhere too... <LOLOL>

I will say your absolutely right if only Electrolux could of made a mteck motor fit in the 89 or at leasta more agressive brushroll would of been nice .But i must say asa dayli use my 89 lux green machine is very good .
But my Tristar compact combo are a force to be wrecking whit .

Electroluxes were born many yrs before Compact/Tri-Stars were, and I agree the powerhead part of the Tri-Stars is likely also a large part of the ultimate excellent performance of them for 'home cleaning' especially, though it was also nearly certainly something that got designed/built a good bit later than the ultimate machines themselves. (not a lot of room for powerheads in an airplane...?) Prolly also the key to the efficiency of the 80's Kenmores...they had really good powerheads too, if not quite as capable at getting to corners/baseboards/yada yada, and even if they did gradually lose their suction power as the dirt bag inside became filled up...the same thing that Suck-o-luxes do when their inner dirt bags start to get full, but which Tri-Star's *don't* do by their unique design.

(or, at least until a certain Mr. Dyson took the same basic Compact/Tri-Star engineering and overly re-designed it into yet one more cheap bit of plastic anybody can buy tomorrow for >$100 at wallyworld... <groan>)

Hmmm...mebbe one of these days I should try to plug up one of my Kenmore powerheads to one of the Tri-Stars...?? <LOLOLOL>

ahahah but i will say i enjoy both my Compact ,Tristar an Eelectrolux Canister vacuums .All 3 run like new but i just wish tristar compact hada bag check liht .Altho they dotn need it per there desing but i am spoilled whit the auto cord rewind, the direct connect hose and telescopic wand of the luxes .The compact power head came from Eureka rototmatic line up actually .And yes the comapct started in 1937 or was it 39 ?????Any who the powernozzle of the eureka line got paired whit the Compact Tristar vacuums just like : Montgomery wards, JC Penny ,Rexair ,Fair Fax its an amazing nozzle .I just wish electrolux had a more agressive nozzle whita vinyl hose on any older electrolux it ,takes advantage of all the power available .
All my vacuum run like new love all 3 .
