My late father was a Navy Veteran, enlisting in the mid 1950’s. While sorting through all of his Navy memorabilia, I came across this bell. It is missing the clapper, but is otherwise intact. It is extremely heavy, and measures about 10.5” in height and 10” in width. Any information about this bell would be most helpful and appreciated!

All naval ships have bells. The larger bells usually have the ship's name; smaller bells (like yours) sometimes have the year the ship was commissioned as identification. A ship of that age could easily survived to be decommissioned in the '50s. Possibly your father had access when the ship was mothballed. There are probably US Navy records of commissionings and decommissionings that may turn up some clues to what ship may have held your bell.
