Finally charity shops are open here in Ireland after MONTHS of being shut so of course last weekend I had to check out all of my local shops and found these two interesting little items- a lovely wooden box with a brass Taj Mahal on it and a carved wooden lion with one chipped tooth who walks at an odd tilt. :P
Of course I was going to upload them on Friday directly after my visit but the biggest lightening storm we've had in years came along and as a result completely FRIED my PC...:( but, never mind here's the delayed upload anyway! :D
Both I guess are souvenirs both from India and Africa I'd expect, but what I would really like to know is the wood both are made from- both are carved in a very dense mid brown wood with the lion a little darker. Thanks for looking! :D
The box from India is most likely sheesham wood. It carves very well and is also used in furniture.
Fantastic carved lion, I love his prowling pose - and what a wonderful Taj Mahal box! Super finds, so glad your shops are open we are still "on pause" here :(
