Just picked this little beauty up, i have been looking for an older singer to sew patches on leather vest. the old machines are like tanks. does anyone recognize the model or age of this machine the serial number is AB 110475. i need to clean the machine and tune it up with a few parts but it seems to be in working order. does anyone know if i can replace the motor with a treadle?

What you have is a class 66 Singer made in 1926 in Elizabeth , New Jersey . It appears that most of the decals are there and in good shape . These are good machines and yes you can make it into a treadle machine . As long as you do not try to sew heavy leather it should work just fine for you to sew patches on leather vest . I would also be careful what you use to clean it up . Do not use anything that has abrasives in it so as not to hurt the decals . I use something called TR-3 resin glaze to clean and polish the older machines and use a soft cloth . It is really for cars but it works great on sewing machines . I also wax my machines after they are cleaned up to protect the finish .

thank you nancy. i cleaned up the operating gear as it was pretty gumed up and re-oiled everything. it moves like a swiss watch now! i have removed the motor, light and control unit to replace the old and frayed wire. i will need to find a set of brushes for the motor as the old ones are no good. i am going to refinish the table while i have everything apart.

i used the 66 last night and it works like a charm, built in america in 1926 and still going!

kokomo-acres : Yes you can not do much to mess up the old Singers . They just keep right on trucking along . That is if they have been taken care of and not put outside or something .
