First of all, I want to thank this website for providing so much info to educate myself on these type of dolls! Yet, I still can't identify this doll.
Family story is that she belonged to great-grandma (born ~1895 to 1900).
Without opening the dress stitches on the back, I can't find any markings. She's in very good condition, to me :-), save for the chipped left shoe sole. Her hands are more detailed than others I found online. I'm guessing she has the Dolly Madison hairstyle. Her dress and pantaloons are stiffish and the jewelry is very interesting ("diamond" pin at waist and "diamond" necklace). The one thing about her, that doesn't look like other similar doll heads found online, is her mouth--red painted heart rather than painted lips.
Can anyone give me more info from looking at the pics? or can you direct me to where I can get answers?
thanks in advance!
also, it doesn't show in my pics....this is a light blue ribbon painted around her upper calf, just under where the cloth body attaches.
Hi your doll is called a Common" Low Brow China " However she appears newer maybe made in 50's as a ceramic class doll at the time until now many women made their own dolls in a class with Old molds . She from Photo's does not have correct painting to be from1890-1920 when low brows were mass produced and at end of China era . They are most common china's found . If you search google for low brow china's you will see one like her and notice painting difference
Hope this helps :-)
