Hello, I have five chairs produced by Mundus with the paper labels and carved letters at the bottom of them. The label does not specify the country, however, they have been in possession of my Poland-based family for the last couple of decades. Do you have any idea what might be the year of production?

I would say 1910, 1920. These chair were designed in Austria - made and marked - "Made in Poland".

Jacob Kohn together with his son Josef Kohn founded the enterprise in 1849. Kohn would later rise to become one of the leading furniture makers in Austria-Hungary.

Kohn's works can be seen in a number of museum today, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Disseny Hub Barcelona.

In 1914 Mundus merged with J. & J. Kohn, and in 1922 with Gebrüder Thonet.
