This well - made & subtly beautiful small vase or rose bowl was a recent find on eBay AU.
It was a cheap buy it now item, & as soon as I saw it, I had a feeling that it was something good. Once in my hands, I could tell that it was a high quality piece of art glass, but I am uncertain of the exact period or maker. I do think it is old - perhaps later Victorian to Art Nouveau, maybe even as late as the 1920s. I don't believe it is a modern piece. No markings of any sort.
Made from what looks like three layers of cased glass - clear over a fine spatter of pale green & yellow - green, with tiny silver flecks, over an opaline white interior, the vase is far heavier than it looks. The base is quite thickly cased, yet the soft colours & simple shape lend it a light & delicate appearance.
It measures around 8 cm tall, 7 cm across the fire polished top rim, & 6.5 cm across the base, which does not have a pontil mark. The vase has subtle, moulded vertical ribs.
I have never seen anything quite like this decor before, & would love to be able to identify this fine piece of art glass.
    Does anyone recognise it?

I love pieces like this! Unique.

I think it DOES have a pontil - it looks highly polished. The weird thing is the toughness of the rim, could it have had a lid or metal frog?

I agree, kralik1928, this piece is really interesting & different, & that's what made me buy it.
There is a rough, ground area around 5 mm wide circling the top rim, which does suggest it might have had a lid or other attachment.
The base is unusual too, it does have a faintly "ground" area but it never struck me as a polished out pontil until having another close look until now. It has a star or flower - like shape which matches the ribbing around the sides of the bowl. Definitely out of the ordinary, & have not seen another item finished off like that. I'd love to find out the maker & era...

Me too, that pontil suggests a top notch maker like Loetz- keep looking at shapes for a compatible “ridged” effect. Look at metalin or Prochaska by Loetz

Will definitely do some more research on this!

The shape is a little like this one, but not quite the same at the top. But the star/flower pontil mark is the same! I've also seen a similar shape in the Metallin decor. PN-III-514/6
