Is this a real antique or fake
It is a original vintage doll from Japan made of gofun, a smooth, porcelain like substance made from ground oyster shell . . Tourist doll. I don't know who he represents although a person with a knowledge of Japanese culture and the meaning of certain costumes ,could help with who he is. I know he is a warrior :-) Very nice piece !
This site maybe help also http://www.antiquejapanesedolls.com/archives_musha.html
It’s a gogatsu ningyo, or “warrior doll” that is put in display (NOT played with!) for the Japanese @Boys’ Day” festival on May 5. The festival was originally called Tango no Sekku, but it’s been expanded in modern times to become a (more inclusive) “Children’s Day” (Kodomo no Hi).
I’m not sure which warrior figure this is as there are several of them, maybe Kintaro? Anyway, it is most definitely Japanese! Note the samurai armour.
