Pretty beat up but looks like an old civil defense helmet from the cold war era.

What is the helmet made of, metal., etc.?
    3. Willow1, 4 years ago
      Its not metal
    4. Congcu, 4 years ago
In that case it will be the helmet liner that went into the metal helmet itself.
    5. fhrjr2 fhrjr2, 4 years ago
Yes it is a helmet liner. In rural areas they always used just a liner when marching in a parade or having a drill. I remember as a kid wondering what a bunch if cripple old men were going to do if a war did start. Our school drill was get down and put your head under your desk. Like that will help in the event of a nuclear attack.

Maybe some hip-peas left it there, in 1967 after one of the protests
My guess is civil defense also
    9. Willow1, 4 years ago
What do you mean hip peas.

I’m sorry I was trying to make a joke and a small observation ,hippies in the 60s used helmets going to the war protests
    11. fhrjr2 fhrjr2, 4 years ago
I remember the war protests, after I got home from Vietnam in 69 they decided they wanted to assign me to riot control. It was either riot control or funeral duty. I much preferred riot control.
    12. Willow1, 4 years ago
Wmy did you much prefer that ????
    13. fhrjr2 fhrjr2, 4 years ago
Well Willow1 after you fight a war and watch friends get killed, the last thing you want to do is come home and bury others. Been over 50 years and to this day I have been to one funeral and don't intend to go to my own.

Hello, thats an IRAQI M80 helmet made by South Korea for IRAQ , the red triangle shows it was used by the Elite REPUBLICAN GUARD, these helmets date from the IRAN / IRAQ WAR in the 1980's through The GULF WAR in the 1990's and after

these were never imported, most likely brought back to the US by a US serviceman

people often mistake these as some type of helmet liner, but these are actual combat helmets.
