Thanks again for everyone stopping by. The good news is that they were all put on the track today and after some head scratching they are runners now. Appreciate you all!
Very cool set!! what are they??
Lata....these are lionel santa fe war bonnets. One is a 2343 with the dummy unit and the other is a lionel 2243. Both are o gauge.
I truly appreciate everyone looking and loving!
Wow! I didn't think those ever turned up at "the right price" anymore. Congratulations!
Thanks Doctor for looking and loving and your comment. I bought these on E-bay and I like to use best offer option. I bod on a good many things and lose most of them. I offer what I think is a fair price and sometimes the seller and I agree. On these particular purchases the stars aligned and we struck a deal. We have a saying where I come from and that is when you buy something that you are not sure of it is like buying a pig in a poke. The trains looked worn and rightly so with their age and price. What the sellers did not say is that they were modified to some degree internally. The 2243 did not run at all and the ad said untested and so I welcomed the challenged. It was simple to fix but was modified inside with the brushes. The 2343 a unit was heavily modified but did run. I want things as original as possible and so I pulled all the add-ons out and put back together as close to original as I could. All in all it was satisfying to get them going and they look good on the track . Long answer I know but due diligence will often render positive results...Appreciate you and all who have looked at these Santa Fe's!
